My name is Becky, and I am the founder of My Amazing Mind. It has always been a passion of mine to work with children and young people. I love learning about stages of child and adolescent development, seeing the changes from babies through to adulthood, and understanding how the impact of our life experiences can affect us. This is where I believe our minds truly are amazing! We have the ability and power to make positive changes to our own lives at any age, and to overcome the most difficult of times.
Before coming a counsellor, I worked as a primary school teacher for 10 years. I loved my time as a teacher; it developed my passion for supporting children through both academic achievement and their emotional well-being. My teaching career has given me a wealth of knowledge, experience and deep understanding of working with children, adolescents and their families from a variety of backgrounds, and allows me to recognise the struggles students face on a daily basis.
After having three children of my own, I decided to pursue a career in counselling. I completed a Master of Science in Counselling Children and Young People at Northampton University. This trained me to become an integrative counsellor, allowing me to use a variety of therapeutic techniques to suit the needs of each individual. My training has qualified me in the use of person-centred therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), play therapy, systemic family therapy, narrative therapy and creative therapies. I have since worked in mental health services, private practice and both primary and secondary schools, and I'm a registered member of BACP.
My Amazing Mind was then created to combine my teaching background and mental health experience to provide a full service of mental health support through teaching and counselling. If you feel your school would benefit from our services, I'd love to hear from you.
